Family Pet Expo coming to Arlington Park

The Chicagoland Family Pet Expo will be held March 14 to 16 at Arlington Park Racecourse in Arlington Heights. Show hours are 2 to 7 p.m. Friday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.

Admission for adults is $10 and $6 for children 3 to 12 years of age; no charge for children under 3. Parking is $6. This is an event for the entire family.

The expo will include your favorite breeds, demonstrations, giveaways, Dancing with Dogs, World Canine Freestyle, Frisbee performances plus cats, birds and some small animals. There will also be numerous vendors. Among the booths will be Strays Halfway House at No. 105 and 106. Another will be Greyhounds Only, Inc. with all of the information you need to adopt one.

New classes:ŒLeash and Collar Dog Training has a new puppy class starting at 6:30 p.m. and basic obedience at 7:45 p.m. March 13. There is also a post-basic obedience class, which is intermediate obedience, starting at 8:45 p.m. March 20. These are held at 238 Saunders Road, Riverwoods. Run-Thrus: Northwest Obedience Club will have another session of run-thrus March 16 in the training center at 735 Industrial Drive, Cary. Agility run-thrus will be from noon to 1:30 p.m. for 8-, 12- and 16-inch dogs and 1:30 to 3 p.m. for 20- and 24-inch dogs. Fees for both groups are $5 for one run; $8 for two of the same dog; and $10 for three runs of same dog. These are open to all breeds and are on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Entry deadlines: Interlocking Shetland Sheepdog Club of Monee has set March 15 as the deadline to enter its specialty on April 4 and 5 in the Stone City Kennel Club's building, Cedar and Laraway roads, New Lenox. Included will be conformation, obedience and sweepstakes. The entry fee is $25 plus $17 for second entry of same dog. • The Kennel Club of Yorkville has set March 19 as the deadline to enter its shows on April 5 and 6 in the Convocation Center at Northern Illinois University, Lincoln Highway and Annie Glidden Road, DeKalb. Included will be conformation, obedience junior showmanship and sweepstakes. The entry fee is $26 plus $15 for a second entry of same dog. Entries and fees payable to Roy Jones Dog Shows should be sent to P.O. Box 828, Auburn, IN 46706-0828.

Included with the Yorkville show on Saturday will be the Illiana Schipperke Club's Regional Specialty and the Windy City Havanese Club's Specialty. Scheduled on Sunday are the OFA Heart clinic and OFA Cerf clinic. Go to Jones Web site at www.royjonesdogshows.com for more information.
