3 children killed in apartment fire
Investigators in Chicago are trying to figure out what caused a fire that left three young children dead.
Chicago Fire Department spokeswoman Eve Rodriguez says firefighters battling heavy smoke and fire found a 7-month-old baby, a 2-year-old and a 3-year-old on the top floor of the three-story apartment building. She says the fire began Wednesday morning on that floor.
A 4-year-old child found on the second floor was taken to a hospital in good condition.
Rodriguez says the four children all have the same mother. Firefighters arriving on the scene found the mother outside the building.
Rodriguez says firefighters found a smoke detector on the second floor that wasn't working. She says no other smoke detectors were found.
