Truck hit bus carrying St. Edward team

A pickup truck driver added injury to insult late Tuesday after he rear-ended a bus carrying members of an Elgin girl's basketball team that just lost a game.

The St. Edward Central Catholic High School girl's basketball team was on its way home after a loss at Immaculate Conception High School in Elmhurst when the bus was rear-ended by a pickup truck at Shales Parkway and Route 20 in Elgin, officials said. The bus was stopped at a red light on westbound Route 20.

"It was scary," said St. Edward junior Kristi Knott, a member of the basketball team. "I was actually facing the back of the bus and saw it coming at us and he wasn't slowing down. I screamed and he rammed into us."

The bus sustained minor damage and the pickup truck sustained extensive damage. Three people were treated on the scene for minor injurires, police said. The girls - who have finals Wednesday morning - were picked up by their parents at the scene of the crash. The pickup truck driver was charged with failure to yield.
