Garden club scholarships

• The Garden Club of Inverness is accepting applications for scholarships from students in Palatine Township High School District 211 and Barrington High School. Students can apply if they major in horticulture or environmentally related studies in college. For the birds

• David Willard, collection manager of the Field Museum of Natural History's bird collection, hosts a lecture on "Bird Migration in Chicago: The Spectacle and the Hazards" at 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 15, in the 5th Floor Millennium Park Room of the Chicago Cultural Center, 78 E.
