Lake Zurich splits pair at Pekin

In their second game of the day, the Bears got a 42-38 victory that propelled them into today's fifth place game at the Pekin holiday tournament. They'll play the winner of Tuesday's late game between No. 1 Limestone and Hersey.

Lake Zurich led most of the game, fell slightly behind early in the fourth quarter and then regained the lead in the final minutes.

Connor Mooney scored a game-high 15 points for the Bears, who also got 10 points out of Danny Coleman.

• Earlier on Tuesday, Lake Zurich fell to No. 2 Richwoods 56-52 despite a game-high 17 points from Coleman. Mooney added 11 points.

At Pontiac: Waukegan, one of the top teams in the tournament field, lost its second-day game to Plainfield North 62-61. The Bulldogs, who were up 39-30 at halftime but got outscored by 11 points in the third quarter, got 22 points from Colin Nickerson and 18 points from Jereme Richmond.
