No Democrats up for running against Barsanti
Democrats have not slated a challenger in November for Kane County state's attorney, meaning John Barsanti likely has won a second term.
Several lawyers were asked to seek the top law enforcement post, but none wanted to launch a campaign against Barsanti, said Mark Guethle, chairman of Kane County's Democratic party.
"I think running in Kane County -- a lot of people don't want to spend the time and money," Guethle said on Wednesday. "Unfortunately, we came up a little short."
Monday was the deadline for candidates to file election paperwork.
If a write-in candidate does not file by Sept. 4, it would be the first time since 1996 that a state's attorney has been unopposed, said Linda Mitchell, Kane County's board of elections director.
Barsanti in November 2004 easily grabbed his first 4-year term, but Democrats this year have been bolstered by high interest in the presidential election and a March upset in the special election for a seat in Congress.
Despite not having an opponent, Barsanti said he plans to show at parades and various events leading up to the election.
"It certainly takes a load of pressure off me, not having to campaign and raise a lot of money," Barsanti said.
