Probation for teen in fatal DUI

EDWARDSVILLE -- A southwestern Illinois man who supplied beer to a friend who became drunk and died in a highway wreck has been sentenced to 2 1/2 years on probation.

A Madison County judge also fined 19-year-old Matthew Inman of Worden $2,000 after Inman pleaded guilty Thursday to a felony count of providing liquor to a minor.

Prosecutors alleged that Inman and 22-year-old Keith Lowenstein provided beer to 17-year-old Edwardsville High School senior Christopher Dungan in October 2007.

Dungan's vehicle later hit two trees near Edwardsville, and he died the next day at a hospital. His blood-alcohol level was more than twice the state's legal limit.

Dungan's family agreed to the probation sentence.

Charges against Lowenstein are pending.
