Conservatives not more patriotic
In Mr. Skaritka's letter recently, we again get to hear Mr. Skaritka attempt to disparage we liberals by quoting that there are more conservatives in the military than liberals.
First of all, there are many of us liberals who have served in the military. Myself from '67 to '71. I won't get into refuting Mr. Skaritka's number. There are many reasons why this number is a deception.
More to the point is the inference that conservatives are more patriotic that liberals.
I suggest that Mr. Skaritka do a little reading about Samuel Johnson, who was considered one of the most distinguished men of English literature ever. In his days Mr. Johnson was a staunch conservative. Mr. Johnson's response to this type of patriotism? "Patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel."
I suggest that Mr. Skaritka would be better served if he worried more about what he can do for his country rather than what others may, or may not, be doing.
