What's happened to the post office?
Recently I read that the post office is being forced to live off third class mail as first class is down due to the Internet and e-mail. The post office, as usual, missed a golden opportunity to set themselves up as an Internet provider. Pretty dumb - but the level of management intelligence has not been good during the last four decades.
I get plenty of junk mail and many times my little post office box can't hold it all. The post office box is where I get my more important mail, and I use it more than I do my home mailbox. Naturally, commercial businesses use a post office box for an address. The day usually starts with the mail, especially for incoming payments or accounts receivables.
At one time there was a sign in the post office lobby that announced that the mail would be in the boxes by 9:30 a.m. However, for the last few months the time has slipped to 10 then to 11 a.m. and on Jan. 2 it was not all in at 12:30 p.m. The post office box delivery was the one island of efficiency that I knew of, but now it is a joke.
I don't know why, but the employees on the floor were pretty conscientious and I know that they don't feel good about this.
Whatever happened to "neither snow nor rain nor dark of night will stay us from our appointed rounds?" Just another joke from our government!
