Coffey possibly out for season
Suffering their first loss of the season wasn't the only bad news for Batavia Friday.
Bulldogs starting center Jordan Coffey will undergo surgery on Monday on his right shoulder, possibly sidelining him for the season.
"If not the rest of the season than most of it," Coffey said.
Coffey played throughout the football season with the injury, earning Class 6A All-State honors for the 6-4 Bulldogs.
Not many athletes still play three sports at the level Coffey does, and he wanted to make sure his shoulder is ready for his final baseball season this spring.
"It's not necessarily one thing, it's a couple of things, like a domino effect," Coffey said. "What the pro guys call it in baseball is clean and buff. Clean out, tighten things up, take out some scar tissue that naturally happens. It's nothing major, it's just something that has to be done if I want to play baseball."
