Dist. 59 offers dual language program
School District 59 will hold two parent information nights for families who are interested in enrolling students in the Dual Language Program at Salt Creek School. The meetings will be held at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 13 and Thursday, Jan. 29 at Salt Creek School in Elk Grove Village. Baby-sitting will be provided. The program is open to all families residing within District 59 boundaries. Dual Language program goals are for both English speaking children and Spanish speaking children to become bilingual and to promote multicultural appreciation. Des Plaines candidate filing to begin
Des Plaines City Clerk Donna McAllister announces that the filing period for nominating petitions for independent or new political party candidates for the Tuesday, April 7, Consolidated Election is Tuesday, Jan. 20 through Monday, Jan. 26. Filing hours in the City Clerk's Office, Sixth Floor, 1420 Miner St., are 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., weekdays. Filing will close promptly at 5 p.m., Monday, Jan. 26. If petitions are filed for the same office at 8:30 a.m. on the first day of filing, a public lottery will be held within seven days after the last day of the petition filing period, Monday, Jan. 26. Notre Dame High placement exams
Notre Dame High School, 7655 West Dempster St., Niles, a college prep for young men, invites prospective eighth grade students to take the placement exam at 8 a.m., on Saturday, Jan. 10. The testing fee is $25 and students should bring two number 2 pencils and a nonscientific calculator. Doors open at 7:15 a.m. and registration will take place in the library. AARP tax-aide volunteers needed
Each year the Sheila Ray Adult Center offers free tax preparation to seniors age 60 and older to and lower and middle income taxpayers. This service is provided from Feb. 4 to April 9 at the Al Hattendorf Center at 225 E. Elk Grove Blvd., Elk Grove Village. Volunteers to prepare the tax returns are needed for the upcoming year. Qualifications to prepare taxes for the seniors include previous experience as a bookkeeper or a tax preparer. Volunteer training manuals are available at the Sheila Ray Adult Center. Park board has three openings
Three commissioners for the Arlington Heights Park District will be elected to four-year terms at the April 7, 2009, consolidated election. To be a candidate, interested persons must file nominating petitions signed by 255 qualified voters who are residents of the Arlington Heights Park District. Completed petitions must be filed with the Park District Secretary between Jan. 19 and Jan. 26, during normal business hours of the Park District Secretary, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Park District's Administration Center, 410 N. Arlington Heights Road, Arlington Heights.
