Too much rhetoric, not enough action
Cheers for Joanne Reisener and her letter of Jan. 19 in the Fence Post.
She is not the only one who is tired of all the campaigning and promises and snide comments about other candidates. All say they will make changes when they get elected president. Well, the first thing that should be changed is the amount of time that candidates can campaign. We have listened to them for two years now and by the time November arrives it will be almost three years … really!
And what about those candidates that have already been elected to posts in Washington? Why aren't they there doing what they are being paid to do? Yes, there certainly is the need for change in Washington, but, changes will never happen. Within a few months after a new president is elected, the campaigning will start all over again and we will listen to promises that will never be realized.
Let's not forget about the millions of dollars that have been spent over these years of campaigning. Such a waste. How about candidates having to declare all those millions as income and pay taxes on them. All those dollars are, after all, being used for their personal needs. Plus, all those who work for a candidate should pay taxes on what they receive while campaigning. Like that is ever going to happen. Let's face it, all those who are connected to a campaign are receiving a windfall of tax-free dollars.
No, changes will never happen unless they benefit those in office.
