Academic honors for BG softball team

The Buffalo Grove High School girls varsity softball team has been honored for its academic and athletic achievement. The National Fastpitch Coaches Association recently announced its top academic-athletic teams, based on grade point averages submitted for the 2007-08 school year. Buffalo Grove, coached by faculty member Laura Stock, was named second in the state of Illinois last season and came in 19th nationwide. The NCFA honors high school and collegiate softball teams for their success in the classroom, as well as on the playing field.

Microchip your pet Saturday at clinic

Loving Care Animal Clinic, 2633 Kirchoff Road, in Rolling Meadows will hold its biannual "Microchip Your Pet Day" Saturday, Jan. 31, when they charge a reduced rate of $25 for the service. Microchipping normally costs $47. (847) 670-8488.

Each chip has a one of a kind ID number that can be scanned by animal shelters, police departments or animal clinics.

Arlington Heights memories sought

Do you have a personal story or memory about Arlington Heights that would make a good entry in a local history book? How about a photo? Arlington Heights authors Gerry and Janet Souter are seeking stories, photos, memories and oral histories, especially those that have not been seen or told yet, for a sequel to their 2001 book, "Arlington Heights, Illinois: Downtown Renaissance" for History Press in Massachusetts. Computer recycling event in Des Plaines

The city of Des Plaines Deep Green committee is partnering with Public Works and PC Rebuilders and Recyclers for a computer recycling event from 9 a.m.-noon Feb. 28, at Des Plaines Public Works, 11111 Joseph Schwab Road, Des Plaines.

CPU's, monitors, keyboards, mice, printers, etc., along with Sony, Zenith, Goldstar or LG TV's will be accepted. RCRR refurbishes retired equipment and makes it available to schools and other nonprofits. All hard drives are wiped to NIST standards. Computers are refurbished and unusable equipment is recycled responsibly. The event is free and open to Des Plaines residents. (847) 391-5650.
