Elk Grove police probe vandalism
Elk Grove Village police are investigating a rash of vandalism to public property during August.
Vandals broke signs off their posts between 12:35 and 4 a.m. Aug. 23 in parks at Texas Street, Gibson Drive, California Street, Julie and Newberry drives, Wisconsin Lane and Biesterfield Road, police said. Damage estimates total $3,500.
Several streetlights were damaged between July 24 and Aug. 13 around the village with an estimated damage of $2,000, police said.
Police said vandals also caused $4,800 in damage by breaking signs between midnight and 3 a.m. Aug. 8 at the following parks: Clark Park, 1689 Biesterfield Road; McGee Park, 790 Wisconsin Lane; and Windemere Park, 700 Cutter Lane.
Vandals knocked down 100 feet of the fence that surrounds Clark Park between 5 p.m. July 26 and 5 p.m. July 27, reports added. Damage was estimated at $700.
Mayor Craig Johnson said police have kept him apprised of the situation but he declined to comment on whether police believe there is any connection between the incidents, citing the ongoing investigation.
