Cook County police arrest 7 in dog fight
HOPKINS PARK -- Authorities say seven people have been arrested following a dog fight in Hopkins Park.
Cook County Sheriff's Police say the fight was in progress Saturday evening when the arrests -- which were part of a two-month investigation -- were made.
Those arrested face charges including felony dog fighting and obstruction. One man also faces charges for allegedly bringing a five-year-old to the fight.
Nine injured pit bulls were seized and turned over to the Animal Welfare League in Chicago Ridge.
Authorities say one officer and his canine partner were injured when one of the bit bulls attacked them. Both the officer and the canine partner were treated and released.
Authorities say $20,000 in cash was also seized.
