Antioch men charged in McHenry County burglary

Two Antioch men have been charged with burglary and criminal damage to property for a Richmond break-in that police have been tracking for almost a year.

Jason M. Chlopek, 22, of the 23000 block of West Park Avenue, and Michael S. Roman, 23, of the 42000 block of North Lake Road, have also been charged with criminal trespassing to land and theft of more than $300.

Both will appear in a McHenry County Court on Feb. 12 to answer the charges.

Police said the two broke into Jan Air Inc. in Richmond on March 17, 2008 and stole about $2,500 in copper from welding machines.

Chlopek is a former employee at Jan Air, police said, while Roman is a friend of Chlopek.

Richmond Police had been investigating the case since last March, officials said, but didn't have any suspects until Chlopek and Roman were arrested by the Lake County Sheriff's Department on a separate incident and confessed to the Richmond burglary.
