Ride into spring with witches and wagon rides
In spring, we roast marshmallows over an open fire and mingle with witches. Join us for family fun as we celebrate an old German tradition at Walpurgis Night Campfire and Wagon Ride.
Celebrate spring from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 26, at Spring Valley's Volkening Heritage Farm, 201 S. Plum Grove Road. Activities include horse-drawn wagon rides and roasting hot dogs and marshmallows over an open fire.
"What I like about this event is how unique it is," said Patty Kennedy Green, farm coordinator. "Patrons of all ages are intrigued by the history of Walpurgis Night and get to have fun enjoying an evening at the farm."
Walpurgis Night is said to be a time when witches meet on the highest peak of the Harz mountain range in Lower Saxony, Germany, to usher in springtime.
Registration is not required. Cost is $7 per person and includes a hot dog, marshmallows and wagon ride. Admission is free for children ages 3 and younger.
