Moore rolls to victory for Cook recorder

Gene Moore maintained Democratic dominance over the Cook County Recorder of Deeds office Tuesday, notching an easy election win. With 98 percent of precincts reporting, Moore held 70 percent of the vote, while Republican Gregory Goldstein had 24 percent, according to unofficial totals.

Green Party candidate Terrence Gilhooly trailed with nearly 6 percent of the vote.

Since taking office in 1999, Moore, of west suburban Maywood, has transitioned records from paper to digital, including a Web site where the public can download documents from 1985 forward. Moore plans to extend the online documentation to 1970.

Goldstein had promised to go further, making more information available and offering electronic filing online, something Moore plans as well - but Goldstein planned to do it with a 25 percent smaller staff.

Gilhooly called for merging the office with the clerk's office or courts.
