Posting on Carpentersville Web site irks officials
A listing posted on Carpentersville's Web site recruiting federal border patrol officers drew the ire of some village officials Tuesday.
Village President Bill Sarto and Trustee Linda Ramirez-Sliwinski said the one-page flier seeking patrol officers for the southwest border, has no place on the village's site, www.vil.carpentersville.il.us.
"It does not seem to fit with the purpose of the Web page," Sarto said. "And I think it is very poor taste after what we have gone through with illegal immigration. To have that up there, of all things, is like a red flag saying, 'We are going to get you guys one way or another.'æ"
Ramirez-Sliwinski agreed.
"This is not something we should be promoting, we're not an advertising agency," she said. "We are as far away from a border as you can get."
However, Village Manager Craig Anderson said the intent was to inform residents of the available positions.
"People keep asking why the federal government isn't doing more," Anderson said. "We can't say they aren't doing enough and then not help them out in finding patrol officers. Maybe this is the federal government stepping up and doing something."
Anderson also said the flier has been posted inside Village Hall for about a week without complaint.
