Quinn not talked to 2 trustees who won't quit

Gov. Pat Quinn says he hasn't personally talked to the two remaining University of Illinois trustees about resigning.

Quinn indicated in Chicago on Friday that he was open to that and said a personal request to tender their resignations "could happen."

The governor has been in a standoff for two weeks with the university board since he publicly urged the members to resign. A state panel recommended they all step down because of an admissions scandal at the school.

Seven of the nine trustees have resigned. The holdouts are James Montgomery and Frances Carroll.

Quinn hasn't said what he will do if the trustees don't voluntarily quit.

He says the process has to play itself out, much like a nine-inning baseball game.
