Flags to benefit veterans programs:
The Palatine Jaycees are selling embroidered American flags measuring 3-by-5 feet at the Hometown Fest. Proceeds benefit the Sons of The American Legion, Squadron 690, which will then donate the money to veterans programs. The flags cost $20 and mount kits are an additional $10. For more information, go to www.palatinejaycees.org.
Extra cops on Hoffman streets:
Hoffman Estates police will have extra squad cars out this holiday weekend looking for drunken drivers and other traffic violators. Police are warning motorists to use proper judgment and offer the usual advice of using a designated driver, calling taxis, using mass transit or calling a sober friend for a ride. They also ask residents to report suspect drunken drivers to police immediately.
