White Sox announce 2010 schedule, to open against Indians

The Chicago White Sox have announced the club's tentative 2010 regular-season schedule, with the White Sox opening the 2010 season at U.S. Cellular Field on Monday, April 5, vs. the Cleveland Indians, the club's fifth Opening Day at home over the past six seasons. The other two games of the opening series against the Indians are scheduled to be played April 7-8.

The White Sox will take on the division-rival Minnesota Twins in the second series at home (April 9-11) and begin the road portion of the schedule with a four-game set at the Rogers Centre vs. the Toronto Blue Jays beginning April 12.

The White Sox and the Chicago Cubs continue their interleague rivalry for the 14th straight season, with the Sox traveling to Wrigley Field June 11-13 and the Cubs visiting U.S. Cellular Field June 25-27. The White Sox lead the all-time regular season series vs. the Cubs, 37-35, after winning four of six games in 2009.

The White Sox will start interleague play at home when they face the Florida Marlins May 21-23. The White Sox will visit the Pittsburgh Pirates (June 15-17) and the Washington Nationals (June 18-20), who they will face for the first time in franchise history. The Sox also will host the Atlanta Braves (June 22-24).

The White Sox play the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim nine times in 2010, including two-game (May 19-20) and four-game (July 5-8) sets at U.S. Cellular Field. The Sox face the Boston Red Sox seven times in 2010, including a four-game series at U.S. Cellular Field (September 27-30). The final White Sox home series of the season is a three-game set vs. Cleveland (October 1-3).

The longest homestand of 2010 is nine games, which occurs twice during the season (June 1-10 and September 10-19). The longest road trip is 10 games, which occurs twice (July 15-25 and August 30-September 9).

The 2010 schedule is tentative and subject to change. Game times and a broadcast schedule will be released at a future date.
