Jaycees 'Wheel of Meat' contest Nov. 22

You may not win a fortune, but you could score a steak! Next Saturday, Nov. 22, the Huntley Jaycees will host "Wheel of Meat," a fundraising raffle game, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Parkside Pub in downtown Huntley. Organizers promise "tons of meat to win," and profits support the group's community projects. You'll find details at huntleyjaycees.org.

The Jaycees will also be on hand at this year's Turkey Testicle Festival - for you newcomers, it's exactly what it sounds like - on Wednesday, Nov. 26 at the Parkside. This year, they'll sponsor a "Chicago Bears Golf Cart Raffle" for one tricked-out golf cart, with paint and trim courtesy of Lonnie's Auto Body.

Next week, we'll have more details about this venerated Huntley "tradition," but right now another holiday appeal needs your help.

Food pantry drives

Grafton Township's Thanksgiving Food Pantry Drive has begun, and donations are needed to help fill baskets for around 80 local families. Money to purchase turkeys has been donated by local Lions Clubs, the Huntley American Legion, and area church groups.

Nonperishable food items and personal items - diapers, soap, toilet paper, toothpaste, etc. - are needed and cash or grocery gift cards are welcomed. Call (847) 669-3328 or graftontownship.us.

This weekend, Willow Creek Community Church members are collecting supplies for area food pantries, and two Huntley families plan to donate items they collect to Grafton Township. Donations may be dropped off Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon with the Aderiye family at 12222 Donahue Dr. or the Altpeter family, 10855 Shenandoah Ct.

The Huntley library has a novel way for tardy patrons to turn a guilty "vice" into a virtue. Through Nov. 30, you'll get a $3 credit on your overdue fines for each bag of food pantry donations turned in at the circulation desk. Call (847) 669-5386.
