Rick Springfield returns to the Hemmens

Totally!

I don't care what anyone says: "Jessie's Girl" rocks! The man behind that Reagan-era pop gem, former soap opera hunk Rick Springfield, will revisit that and other hits from his catalog in Elgin this weekend. Bring your big hair and stonewashed jeans.

8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 4, at the Hemmens Cultural Center, 45 Symphony Way, Elgin. $40-$125. Call (847) 931-5900 or visit hemmens.org.

Pop for the tots

Libertyville musician Peter Cimbalo plays tunes for the younguns during a free kids' concert in his hometown. Cimbalo, who has toured with the Gin Blossoms and played with such local bands as the Yellowhammers, will play material from his children's record, "Me and Peter John."

3:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, in the Amber Room at Mickey Finn's Brewery, 412 N. Milwaukee Ave., Libertyville. (847) 362-6688.

Fonda returns

Blane Fonda, an indie-pop group with roots in St. Charles, Wheeling and Naperville, brings its energetic guitar-based music to Palatine this weekend. Blane Fonda emerged from the ashes of the Sapiens, a well-regarded band that seemed poised for a breakout before creative differences split the group up. Blane Fonda creates catchy, danceable tunes that often display an '80s New Wave vibe, and the buzz has started once again. Also on the bill is U2 tribute band Elevation.

10 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, at Durty Nellie's, 180 N. Smith St., Palatine. $6. Call (847) 358-9150.
