Wheeling voters reject 911 tax increase

With 18 of 26 precincts reporting, voters seemingly rejected by a vote of 60 percent to 40 percent raising the 911 surcharge in Wheeling from 75 cents a month to $1.45 a month to help maintain the village's 911 system.

The village board has said that if it fails, taxes will have to increase to defer the costs of maintaining the system.

The surcharge has not been raised since 1989.
