Depeche Mode, Tool, Killers to headline Lollapalooza
Lollapalooza is rounding up the usual suspects for its three-day festival this summer at Grant Park downtown.
The alternative-rock extravaganza announced Tuesday that this year's headline artists will be Depeche Mode, Tool, the Killers, the Beastie Boys and Kings of Leon.
The second-tier acts are somewhat more interesting, including Lou Reed, Neko Case, TV on the Radio, Vampire Weekend, the Decembrists, Fleet Foxes and Santigold. Among the hidden delights are up-and-comers the Raveonettes and Los Campesinos! Lollapalooza founder Perry Farrell will reunite Jane's Addiction for an appearance, and there will also be a nightclub-style "Perry's" stage with disc jockeys.
Originated as a traveling rock carnival in the early '90s, Lollapalooza was reformed in 2005 as a fixed-site festival under a 10-year agreement with the Chicago Park District to use Grant Park. This year's fest takes place the weekend of Aug. 7. Ticket prices thus far remain level from last year. Early bird tickets are sold out, but advance three-day tickets are $190, available at lollapalooza.com, along with a complete list of acts. The stage configuration and times, however, including potential conflicts, have not been announced.
