Fire damages garage, motorcycles in Lombard

Fifteen vintage motorcycles in various stages of repair were damaged Tuesday when fire erupted in a detached frame garage in Lombard, authorities said.

Fire department spokesman James Plunket said neighbors reported the blaze about 10:15 a.m. in the two-story, two-car garage on the 100 block of South Lombard Avenue.

No one was home at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported. Plunket said authorities are conducting a routine investigation into what caused the incident.

Battalion Chief Mike Torrence estimated damage to the garage and its contents at $65,000.

Plunket said the motorcycles were damaged by both heat and smoke.

It took about 25 firefighters from Lombard, Villa Park and Oak Brook roughly 20 minutes to bring the blaze under control.
