Anchor-reporter Anna Davlantes quits Channel 5
Anchor-reporter Anna Davlantes has left WMAQ-TV Channel 5.
Channel 5 Vice President for News Frank Whittaker made the announcement to station staffers in a perfunctory two-sentence memo Thursday.
"Anna Davlantes is leaving NBC 5 News, effective immediately," Whittaker wrote. "We appreciate Anna's contributions over the last nine years, and we wish her the best in the future."
Station sources said she had an offer to extend her contract as reporter and weekend anchor, but that like anchor Bob Sirott she rejected the terms and opted to walk away.
Davlantes has also worked at WTTW Channel 11 recently on the interview program "Rewind."
In other media news, WGN 720-AM named Charlie Meyerson news director. Meyerson has spent the last 11 years with the sibling newspaper Web site of the Tribune-owned station and made frequent appearances on WGN-AM. He returns to his radio roots, having joined WXRT 93.1-FM in 1979 and moved to WNUA 95.5-FM 10 years later.
Meyerson was inducted into the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign's Illini Media Alumni Hall of Fame last year. He'll formally join WGN-AM next Thursday, Aug. 6.
