2 teens charged in Carpentersville shooting

Two teenagers were charged over the weekend with attempted first-degree murder in connection with a shooting in Carpentersville.

Bryant E. Granados, 17, of the 600 block of Jefferson Avenue, Carpentersville, and a 16-year-old Rolling Meadows boy were arrested late Friday at their homes, police said. The younger suspect is not being identified because he is a juvenile.

Carpentersville Police Cmdr. Michael Kilbourne said the pair were sitting in a vehicle near Route 68 and Golfview Lane about 10:50 a.m. April 14 when they spotted a rival gang member in a passing van. The juvenile got out of the vehicle and fired three bullets into the van, Kilbourne said. No one was hurt.

Kilbourne said four or five people in the vehicle that was fired upon returned to the area after the shooter left and provided information to police.

"At this point, the investigation is ongoing," Kilbourne said Monday. "There might be other people related to the incident who are not charged or in custody."

Attempted murder is a Class X felony with a standard sentencing range of six to 30 years in prison. In addition, the suspects each are charged with armed violence and aggravated discharge of a firearm.

Granados appears to have no prior criminal history in Kane County, according to court records. He was being held Monday in the in the Kane County jail with bond set at $800,000 pending an April 30 court appearance.
