C'ville factory incident sends firefighters, workers to hospital

Ten firefighters and four factory employees were taken to the hospital Saturday morning after they were exposed to smoke in a Carpentersville factory, firefighters said.

All of the firefighters and employees were released by noon.

Revcor Incorporated at 250 Edwards Ave. was evacuated around 6:15 a.m. when a parts cleaning machine overheated, sending smoke and chemical vapors through the building. There was no fire.

Seven ambulances took the firefighters and employees to several local hospitals as a precautionary measure because the machine that overheated contained a corrosive substance.

Firefighters shut down the machine and ventilated the building. Emergency crews from 14 area fire departments left the scene at 11:30 a.m.

Employees told firefighters an electrical problem may have caused the machine to overheat.
