Green thumb clubs

Organic and edible
• The Kilbourne Park Organic Greenhouse hosts Anna Viertel of the Chicago Botanic Garden to lead a lecture on "The Edible Organic Garden: Spring and Summer Basics" from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Jan. 31, at 3501 N. Kilbourn Ave., Chicago. Cost is $20. Call (312) 742-7529 for more information.
Morton Arboretum
• The Morton Arboretum will be hosting a weekend full of dog-sledding demonstrations, presentations and displays of dogs available for adoption during its "Husky Heroes" event, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 25. Admittance to the event is included with admission to the Arboretum in Lisle, though snowshoe rental is $8 for three hours. • The Morton Arboretum has a special day of kids activities as part of "Groundhog Daze" from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 1. There's puppetry, playing in tunnels and fun facts about groundhogs.

Chicago Botanic Garden
• The Midwest Daffodil Society hosts George Dorner, president of the American Daffodil Society, for a lecture at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 25, at the botanic garden in Glencoe. No extra charge.
• A new silhouette bonsai show called "Three Friends of Winter" is held in honor of the Lunar New Year from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 31 and Feb. 1. There is also a New Year Flower Market, family activities and lectures. On both days Suminagashi artist Pam Martinez does demonstrations on Japanese paper art from 2 to 4 p.m. while Anne Shimojima shares Japanese folk tales and winter stories at 1 p.m. No extra charge.
• Ivan Watters gives a talk on "The Other Season-What We Don't Often See" as part of the American Flower Show Lecture Series from 2 to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 1. No extra charge.
