Donations prove Catholic generosity

In his letter to Fence Post, entitled "(the) Church's agenda should tackle greed," George E. Bedingfield cautiously speculates that the bishops of the church in its lobbying might include themselves in the group of corporate executives whose greed increases the sufferings of the poor.

Really? Here are some facts: The pope, bishops, cardinals, priests and people of the Catholic Church contributed in 2007 a total of $ 3.88 billion to Catholic Charities USA, and contributed a total of $536 million to Catholic Relief Services. That, Mr. Bedingfield, I would say is extraordinary generosity which certainly lessens the sufferings of the poor, not only in the United States, but abroad as well.
