Skip 'race game' on illegal immigration
The immigration debate in Carpentersville is becoming simply ridiculous. Residents of the village who are attempting to stop crimes linked with the flood of illegal aliens pouring into their community are being silenced with cries of "racism."
A gentleman quoted in the Daily Herald claims that Latinos are being unfairly targeted by the village as leaders there try to cut down on illegal immigration, drunk driving and illegal housing and hiring practices.
Are Latinos being targeted because of the color of their skin? Or is it that the majority of these crimes are being committed by Latinos?
So called "white people" in America go out of their way these days not to judge people by the color of their skin. This has been drilled into our heads by the mostly noble efforts of civil rights groups over the last 40 years.
The problem, though, is that a few disingenuous minority groups have learned to play a game that causes white Americans to run and hide any time someone accuses them of being a bigot.
Keep standing up for yourself, Carpentersville! Remain fair to all of your citizens.

Lies produced spills of differing import
Generally, I'm not a fan of letters to the editor that are responses to someone else's response to someone else's letter, but I just couldn't let the Aug. 8 letter from Joan Fernandes go without challenge.
In answer to her first question, no, President Bill Clinton was not impeached for not authorizing an incursion into a foreign country with whom we were not at war.
If we are going to suggest that Clinton should have been impeached for not knowing that Sept. 11 was going to happen years before it happened, shouldn't we consider impeachment for President George Bush for not knowing it was going to happen when he had the facts presented to him just weeks prior?
In answer to her second question, yes, Clinton was impeached as a result of his sexual dalliance in the White House, or, more accurately, for lying about it. The current President Bush lied to the public about Iraq's involvement in Sept. 11 and about its potential to develop and use weapons of mass destruction in the near future. The result was the death of more than 3,000 American troops and an untold number of Iraqi civilians.
I'm trying to understand Fernandes' priorities. Lies that pertain to spilled semen are more deserving of impeachment than lies that result in spilled American and Iraqi blood?

Who is focusing on race issue now?
I find it amazing that the black community has focused on Barack Obama as not being "black enough" for their vote. They would be the first to protest any white person focusing on Obama's race as an issue in the election.
Let's hope we can all rise above these issues to a higher ground.
