Sing along to "Hairspray " at local theaters

If you're one of the bejillions of "Hairspray" fans who can't help singing along with the musical numbers, take heart!

As of Friday, you'll be able to sing along with the movie characters and not get bonked on the head by the irritated viewer next to you.

One hundred American theaters will be issued special prints that show lyrics on the screen as they're being sung.

You can catch this karaoke treatment at the South Barrington 30, the Cantera 30 in Warrenville, the Lincolnshire 20, Webster Place in Chicago and the Evanston Century 12. Check with theaters for show times.

So, when you feel the urge to sing harmony with Tracy Turnblad during "Good Morning Baltimore" or "I Can Hear the Bells," do it.

John Waters approves.
