Hanover Park man charged with selling heroin near Elgin school
A Hanover Park man was in custody at the Kane County jail Thursday, unable to post bond after his arrest on charges of selling heroin near an Elgin school.
Larry Davis, 34, 1458 Bear Flag Drive, was charged with unlawful delivery of a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a school, unlawful delivery of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of a controlled substance - all felonies, according to Elgin police.
The charges stem from a July 24 incident in which undercover Elgin detectives bought 1.6 grams of heroin from Davis, police said.
The transaction occurred in a parking lot at 1169 Dundee Avenue - roughly 450 feet from Coleman Elementary School, police said.
Davis was arrested Monday.
A judge Thursday morning set his bond for $100,000, meaning he must post $10,000 to go free while awaiting trial. Davis is scheduled to return to court Nov. 12.
If convicted on the most serious charge, he would face between six and 30 years in prison.
