Barsamian, Fillies come out firing
Thursday's Barrington invitational was just about a perfect start for the Fillies.
Barrington won the invite, now known as the Julie Sokulski Hesser Memorial Tournament, with a school record mark of 317.
McCall Barsamian led the Fillies with a personal-best 73 to finish second overall.
"I'm very happy with (a 73)," Barsamian said. "I was scoring well but I had some wrong shots -- misuse of clubs. I had a lot of recovery and 3 birdies. It's my personal best in a tournament, so that's exciting."
Brittany Keiter shot 80 for Barrington with Taylor Quinn (81) and Marina Karamanis (83) also counting.
"I'm very proud of them for the first day," said Barrington coach Jodi Schoeck. "We have a group effort going. That's what you need. You can't just have one (low) score. Everyone kept focused and didn't give up."
Lake Forest's (343) Hailey Koschmann, last year's state runner-up, shot a 71 to earn medalist honors for the third straight year.
Fenwick finished second overall with a 325.
Waubonsie Valley (337) was third led by Tory Blumenshine's 80. Michelle Meifert and Alissa Farhenz added 85s.
St. Charles East was just a stroke back in fourth with a 338. The Saints were led by a pair of 82s by Rachel Edwards and Jenny Niemiec 82.
Libertyville (385) had an exceptional performance by Alex Hein, who was fifth overall with a 78.
"I was hitting the ball OK," Hein said. "I had a couple birdies so that helped. (My teammates) all did very well. It was fun."
Ashley Falasz added an 89 for the Wildcats.
Alexa Haider led Lake Zurich with a 93 while teammates Amanda Wright and Amanda Beck turned in 95s.
Amy Vojta shot a 93 to lead Palatine (417).
