Soldier found dead at Fort Stewart identified

FORT STEWART, Ga. -- A National Guard soldier found dead at Fort Stewart was identified as an Illinois native assigned to the Warrior Transition Unit.

U-S Army officials say Private Michael A. Bloomquist of Kankakee was found dead Saturday night in his barracks room. He was 19.

The cause of death is still under investigation.

Bloomquist was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 7th Infantry Regiment in the 3rd Infantry Division's 1st Combat Brigade.

The soldier's death was the second on the Army post since January.

The military said Specialist William Smith, 27, was found dead in his barracks on Jan. 9.
