Lincolnshire Prairie-View School District 103 notes
Bowl-O-Rama successful: Students, parents, teachers and staff at Daniel Wright Junior High School in Lincolnshire raised more than $7,000 for the Vernon Township Food Pantry through a first-time "Bowl-O-Rama" community service project.
Each student in fifth through eighth grades designed a unique clay bowl during art class. Teachers also painted bowls after school hours.
The District 103 PTO, led by president Amy Gordon, compiled family recipes into a community cookbook and coordinated a "taste and vote." Bowls and cookbooks were sold at the tasting event, which was held during the grade level open house nights in April.
Principal Josh Carpenter will present the results to Vernon Township Supervisor William Peterson at a school assembly on Monday.
School walk raises $27,000: Students at Sprague School recently raised $27,312 as they participated in a school walk to support the American Diabetes Association.
As the top fundraising school in the state for the last four years, Sprague has raised more than $88,000. Donations made this year exceeded last year's total by $5,000.
The students participated in the walk to culminate Healthy Choices Week.
Physical education teacher John Rueth helped coordinate the school walk and expressed his appreciation to the Sprague community.
