Dist. 214 taking Arts Unlimited entries
Northwest Suburban High School District 214 is accepting entries until Feb. 15 for this year's Arts Unlimited contest.
For the community writing and art contest, one entry per person can be made in poetry, prose and visual art. Prose entries are limited to 1,500 words. Visual art entries must be in two dimensions, in color or grayscale, and submitted as a photograph or copy.
Two copies of each entry are required, with the entrant's name, address and telephone number, and title of work, on the back of one copy, and the title only on the other copy. Entries will not be returned.
Submit entries to Liz Schrenk, Arts Unlimited 214, Elk Grove High School, Elk Grove Village, IL 60007. The awards presentation and reception will be April 15.
Arlington prayer breakfast on Feb. 5
Reservations are due by Jan. 30 for the 22nd annual Arlington Heights Mayor's Community Prayer Breakfast, being held Feb. 5 at 7:15 a.m. at the Sheraton Chicago Northwest, 3400 W. Euclid Ave., Arlington Heights. Mayor Arlene Mulder will be joined by featured speaker Karie VanGrinsven, program coordinator for the Senior Center, and other residents who will discuss the importance of faith and prayer in the community and their lives. Tickets are $20 per person. Reservations must be made in advance with the Arlington Heights Chamber of Commerce, (847) 253-1703.
Citizenship seminar Jan. 24 at St. Mary
St. Mary Church Heart of Mary will host a free citizenship information seminar 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Jan. 24 at the church community center, 795 Center St., Des Plaines. The seminar will have application assistance, legal consultation and registration for citizenship classes. Photographs are available for $10. Call (312) 357-4666 for details.
People who have been permanent residents of the U.S. for at least five years or have been a legal permanent resident for three years and are currently married to a U.S. citizen and have been married to that citizen for at least three years are eligible for citizenship.
