Remains found in Wisconsin tent identified as Illinois man

MARINETTE, Wis. -- Mummified remains found in Marinette in November have been identified as those of a 47-year-old Illinois man.

Marinette County Coroner George Smith identified him as Kenneth Filarski, a native of the Chicago area who lived as a transient and was known to travel by railroad car.

DNA comparisons with members of the family were used for the identification.

Smith said the remains were found Nov. 19 in a tent on the Aurora Medical Center campus behind a store. An employee of the center spotted the tent after the leaves fell and called police.

Smith said the body was in the tent more than two months before it was found.
