Obama, Clinton at odds with the law

The Constitution of the United States is the law of the land. My question is why those in politics don't have to play by the rules.

Case in point. Under Article One of the United States Constitution, Section Six; Clause Two; second paragraph, it states: "Furthermore, Senators and Representatives cannot (repeat cannot - my addition) resign to take newly created or higher-paying political (presidential office/secretary of state - again, my addition) positions; rather, they must wait (underline must wait - my addition) until the conclusion of the term for which they were elected."

Why does this not apply to Senators Obama and Clinton? Obama has several more years before his Senate seat is up for re-election. Same is true of Clinton.
