Elgin man charged with pulling gun during argument

A 17-year-old Elgin man could face jail time after being accused of pulling a gun on Elgin's west side during an argument outside a pizza parlor.

Jose L. Jungo-Godos, of the 300 block of Elm Street, was arrested on charges of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and possession of a firearm without a Firearm Owner's Identification Card, police said.

No shots were fired and no injuries were reported, but Jungo-Godos faces 2 to 5 years in prison if convicted.

The incident began at about 9:49 p.m. outside a pizza restaurant on the 500 block of McLean Boulevard when people from two different vehicles got into an argument, police reports said.

Elgin Police Sgt. John Demmin said Jungo-Godos went to a van in which he was a passenger and came back with an item wrapped in a bandanna. The bandanna fell off, revealing a gun, Demmin said.

"He got out of the van and became a third party," Demmin said.

Police reports said Jungo-Godos warned people they might get "popped."

Demmin didn't know what sparked the argument and said a report on the incident did not indicate it was gang related.

Someone called police and the vehicle Jungo-Godos was riding in was stopped a couple blocks away, but he wasn't inside.

Police were later called to Kimball Middle School a block away for a reporting of a man matching his description; he was found later in the 200 block of North Weston Avenue.

Demmin said police searched the area and the handgun was found on school property.

Jungo-Godos is being held at the Kane County jail on 10 percent of $100,000 bail. He is due in court on Sept. 15.
