'Pack the Mack' night

Geneva's boys basketball team will have a unique home court advantage when it hosts Yorkville on Tuesday at the Mack Olson Gymnasium.

Vikings coach Phil Ralston didn't believe a varsity boys game had been held at Olson Gymnasium since games were switched to the Contest Gymnasium earlier this decade. The junior varsity plays there regularly.

"We thought it'd be kind of a neat environment for the kids," said Ralston, whose Vikings are off to a 5-2 start, 2-1 in the Western Sun Conference.

Olson Gymnasium is less than half the size of the Contest Gym, Ralston said, but in addition to providing a retro feel to the proceedings, another goal is to bulk up Tuesday's attendance.

"Attendance for the (Dec. 1) Rochelle game was around 700," Ralston said. "Let's see if we can get closer to 1,000, and that'll pack our gym."
