Downed power line ignites gas line in Glen Ellyn
A downed power line ignited an underground gas line, starting a fire on a Glen Ellyn driveway Tuesday. Glen Ellyn volunteer fire officials responded to 17 Sunset Ave. around 4:29 p.m. to find the line down and arcing on the driveway, fire officials said.
A few minutes later, the power line penetrated the driveway and ignited the gas line. Five buildings were evacuated and remained evacuated late Tuesday.
NICOR officials were digging to reach the gas line Tuesday night in order to shut it off so that ComEd officials could secure the line and restore power to the area along Roosevelt Road, officials said. No one was injured and there was no structural damage to any nearby buildings, officials said.
