DePaul turned back

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Weyinmi Efejuku scored 18 points to lead four Friars in double figures as Providence beat DePaul 62-54 on Saturday.

Geoff McDermott added 13 points and 10 rebounds for Providence (10-4, 2-0 Big East).

The Friars used a balanced attack and scrappy defense to edge the Blue Demons (8-7, 0-2 Big East), who never led in the game but hung close throughout the second half.

Poor perimeter shooting hurt DePaul, which shot just 3-for-19 from beyond the arc.

Providence opened the game on a 9-2 run and led by as much as 12 early.

A Mac Koshwal jumper cut the Friars' lead to 44-43 with 10:20 to go in the second half, but Providence responded with an 11-2 run. The Blue Demons never got within a possession again.

Will Walker had 14 points to lead DePaul. Mac Koshwal and Dar Tucker added 10 rebounds apiece.
