Scouting North Chicago @ Antioch
North Chicago (1-5, 1-2) at Antioch (3-3, 1-2)
When 7:30 p.m. today
Last week North Chicago def. Round Lake, 30-8; Antioch lost to Vernon Hills, 14-0.
Skinny: Last year, Antioch never wanted to lose a game because an undefeated regular season was on the line. This year, the Sequoits, who indeed got that undefeated regular season, don't want to lose from here on out because they could be out of the playoff picture just a year removed from advancing to the Class 6A semifinals. "This is a must-win for us," Antioch coach Brian Glashagel said. "Every week is a must-win now." With three losses already, the Sequoits don't want to have to try to qualify for the state playoffs on points. On paper, North Chicago seems like a timely remedy for Antioch's two-game skid. But Glashagel says North Chicago can be a dangerous football team. "North Chicago makes some mistakes that hurt them," Glashagel said. "But they also can make plays that not many kids can make. They've got some really good athletes on that team."-North Chicago running back Brandon Davis rolled up 135 rushing yards on Round Lake last week and junior Keenan Handy sprinted for a 70-yard touchdown run. "North Chicago has two good backs who run hard and who are physical," Glashagel said of Davis and Handy. "Those guys are also playing linebacker though. They've got so many kids going both ways. They play most teams tough in the first half and then just kind of run out of gas."-Antioch is hoping to refill its tank after a tough two-game stretch in which it got shut out last week by Vernon Hills. "We're not used to that," Glashagel said. "We're used to putting up a lot of points on the board." Antioch got just 67 and 59 rushing yards respectively last week out of leading rushers Steve Lorenzini and Josh Guadarrama.
