Chicago PD abusing power
It's inevitable to escape the headlines in the news reporting police abuse in Chicago. How is it these officers are being declared to have taken justified action when they are captured on film taking advantage of their authority? There is even a statistic that says an officer in Chicago shoots someone every 10 days! This unacceptable and until something changes, the people of Chicago are at risk.
The Chicago Police Department has not been fulfilling it's duty to carry out police complaints. It keeps on piling complaints aside and always giving the benefit of the doubt to the officers. More than 10,000 complaints have been reported, but only 19 have resulted in true disciplinary action. It cannot be trusted with complaint cases.
To ensure that complaint cases are thoroughly investigated, it is necessary for us to demand a civilian oversight board be created to make sure cases are handled properly. With a civilian oversight board, it would be the civilians giving the verdict, not the accomplice of the officer. There would no longer be a cover-up system denying justice to the civilians.
If we don't want this problem in Chicago to spread to the suburbs we need to demand that this civilian oversight board be created soon.
