Scouting Marengo @ Hampshire

Marengo (2-6, 0-4) at Hampshire (3-5, 2-2)

When: Today at 7 p.m. at Hampshire Athletic Field

Last year: Hampshire 34, Marengo 7

Last week: Hampshire 12, Burlington Central 9 OT; Richmond-Burton 42, Marengo 7

Outlook: Following a thrilling overtime victory against rival Burlington Central on homecoming, the Whip-Purs aim to finish the season with a third straight victory against the visiting Indians in the Big Northern-East finale. A victory would also guarantee no worse than a third-place finish in the BN-E for a Hampshire team that never stopped trying despite some unwanted early season results. "The year started rough, but I think the guys kind of got rewarded Friday night with that win," Cavanaugh said. "It was fun, just a great high school football game. We're just trying to build off that a little bit. Our entire defense played real well. To hold (Central) down like they did, the entire defense really did a nice job." Hampshire senior quarterback Ryan Burke has thrown for 511 yards and 4 touchdowns on 38-of-77 passing since being installed as the starter in Week 4. Senior running back Ron Laramie has rushed for 597 yards and 11 touchdowns (5.1 avg.). Junior running back Bobby Gaines leads Marengo with 508 yards and 4 touchdowns in 138 attempts.
