Hampshire knocks off Marengo

Hampshire used a strong defensive effort to shut out visiting Marengo en route to a 18-0 home victory Friday night in Big Northern East action at Hampshire.

Hampshire (4-5, 3-2) got on the board with under 2 minutes remaining in the first quarter as Ty Hendry recovered a Marengo fumble at the 12-yard line, and on the ensuing play senior running back Ron Laramie broke free for a 12-yard touchdown run. After a failed extra-point attempt, the Whip-Purs took a 6-0 lead into the second quarter.

Laramie picked up right where he left off, scoring his second touchdown of the night with 9:19 left in the second quarter on a 2-yard run. Hampshire tried to run it in for a 2-point conversion, but failed and headed into the locker room at halftime holding a 12-0 lead.

The Whip-Purs were kept off the scoreboard in the third quarter, but struck again with 8:29 left in the fourth. Ray Quesada took a Ryan Burke handoff 48 yards down the left sideline all the way into the end zone for the final scoring play of the night.
