Ad Watch: Roskam draws attention to Blagojevich ties
Here is a closer look at accusations in a radio and TV ad blitz from U.S. Rep. Peter Roskam, a Wheaton Republican, against Democrat Jill Morgenthaler of Des Plaines.
What the ad says:
"(Jill Morgenthaler) is a crony of Rod Blagojevich, she served as one of his top lieutenants."
What else you should know:
Morgenthaler was director of homeland security for the state under the governor from 2005 to 2007. Morgenthaler is also a retired Army colonel who severed in Iraq and Bosnia.
What the ad says:
"Morgenthaler helped felon and Blagojevich pal Tony Rezko try for a multimillion-dollar contract in Iraq."
What else you should know:
Morgenthaler says she didn't know Rezko had ties to Companion Security, which wanted to train security officers to protect Iraqi power plants. Morgenthaler penned a letter in 2006 suggesting a state military facility could be used for training the company's employees. Rezko was not a felon at the time Morgenthaler wrote the letter.
What the ad says:
"Jill Morgenthaler doesn't even live in the district she's running to represent."
What else you should know:
Morgenthaler lives just outside the 6th District's boundaries in Des Plaines. Federal law does not require congressmen to live in the district they represent.
